- 01Dr Catherine Fernando has a Postgraduate Diploma in Dermatology (Awarded with Distinction). She also holds a certificate in Advanced Dermoscopy. Catherine loves to help adults and children with all kinds of medical skin conditions. However, she does not do cosmetic treatments. Please book an appointment if you need help with: • A rash of unknown cause • Acne • Eczema • Psoriasis • Rosacea • Seborrhoeic dermatitis • Actinic keratosis • Melasma • Vitiligo • Moles – we can do mole checks with dermoscopy. We will refer you to a secondary care clinic if the mole needs to be excised or biopsied. This list is not exhaustive.
- 02Consult us about any problem that you would usually speak to a GP about. Both Kevin and Catherine are highly experienced General Practitioners.
- 03If you have palpitations, "funny turns" which may involve loss of consciousness, or a feeling of your heart skipping a beat, book our light weight, wearable cardiac monitor to continuously monitor your heart rhythm. Choose between a period of 2 days to 2 weeks to capture an arrhythmia (rhythm disturbance). The cost includes a fully verified report of your heart rhythm over this period of time with advice and guidance on any recommended actions. At the initial appointment a GP will ask you about your symptoms, and examine you to listen to your heart and check your blood pressure. The cardiac monitor will then be applied. It is very small, light and comfortable to wear.
- 04Covering lifestyle and therapeutic management of all aspects of type 2 diabetes, including those with pre-diabetes or a higher risk of diabetes due to a history of gestational diabetes, polycystic ovarian syndrome, or a family history of diabetes. Dr Kevin Fernando has 20 years experience of supporting people living with Type 2 Diabetes & has a Masters Degree in Diabetes (Awarded with Distinction). Kevin has a YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@DrKevinFernando)with a range of brief, informative videos created to support people living with Type 2 Diabetes.
- 05The annual comprehensive health screen consultation package includes an initial 45 minute consultation and a 30 minute follow-up consultation The package includes: • A comprehensive cardiovascular, kidney and metabolic health assessment: • Measurement of BMI & waist-to-height ratio & assessment of future risk of cardiovascular & metabolic complications including type 2 diabetes mellitus, fatty liver disease & sleep apnoea • Assessment of blood pressure, pulse rhythm (to exclude atrial fibrillation), and heart examination. • Measurement of oxygen saturation, and examination of lungs •. Assessment of kidney function including blood and urine tests and calculation of risk of developing kidney failure •. Full cholesterol profile including Lp(a) & calculation of risk of developing cardiovascular disease •. Assessment of liver function including FIB-4 and calculation of risk of developing liver fibrosis or cirrhosis •. Calculation of risk of developing osteoporosis (referral for DEXA bone density scan is billed separately). •. Sleep apnoea questionnaire assessment (referral for sleep studies is billed separately) • Individualised recommendations for behavioural changes & medical interventions Initial consultation 45 minutes includes the cost of blood & urine tests. Follow up consultation 30 minutes includes prescription charges as necessary. Any referrals required will be billed separately.
- 06Our weight management consultation package doesn't just focus on numbers on a scale; we focus on whole health gain, not just weight loss. The weight management consultation package includes: • A comprehensive cardiovascular, kidney and metabolic health assessment: • Measurement of BMI & waist-to-height ratio & assessment of future risk of cardiovascular & metabolic complications including type 2 diabetes mellitus, fatty liver disease & sleep apnoea • Full cardiovascular, kidney, liver & diabetes screen consisting of blood pressure, pulse rhythm, blood tests (including full cholesterol profile) and urine test • Individualised recommendations for behavioural changes & medical interventions Initial consultation 45 minutes includes the cost of blood & urine tests. - 08We can provide a full travel medicine consultation including advice and administration of all vaccinations and recommended anti-malarial treatment for your trip.

- 10We can prescribe medication for acute and chronic illness. You may take your prescription to a local pharmacy Alternatively we are able to arrange for your medication to be delivered to your home (usually the day after your appointment).

- 12Having previously worked as a Specialist Registrar in Rheumatology Dr Catherine Fernando is able to advise on rheumatological conditions. The following joints may be injected with corticosteroid if clinically indicated: • Shoulders • Elbows • Knees • Wrists • Ankles • Base of thumbs • Metacarpophalangeal joints of fingers • Proximal interphalangeal joints of fingers.
- 13We love to see children and young people. We are able to advise on any condition that you would usually consult a GP about. We don’t have a private mental health care service.
- 14No. Unfortunately private health insurers do not pay for GP services.
- 15Yes. Guidance from the Department of Health says: ‘Patients who have chosen to pay privately for an element of their care are entitled to receive NHS diagnostic tests free of charge as long as they are eligible”.
- 16No. Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance, or no refund will be given.
- 17Please make your complaint as soon as possible after any incident which has upset you so that we can attempt to resolve any problems quickly. - 18Yes we can do a full range of lab tests through one of the best UK labs with most results next day, We can arrange for Imaging from any provider including those outside of Edinburgh if that is the best place for you. This can be X ray, MRI scans, CT scans or Ultrasounds.
- 19Please pay online at the time of booking your appointment. Cancellations may be made up to 24 hours in advance.
- 20We can give you an online prescription for any pharmacy or have your medication delivered to your door, usually by the next day.
- 21In addition to being fully qualified medical professionals our doctors hold numerous post-graduate qualifications in specialist areas of healthcare. They undergo annual appraisals to ensure they are practicing up to date, safe medicine. Health Improvement Scotland ensures that our working environment is safe for staff and patients.
- 22We would like to share details of your consultation with your regular NHS GP as this improves the safety of your care. However, we can only do this with your consent. There are very few circumstances in which we would be legally bound to share information with professionals involved with safeguarding adults or children. This would only occur if a serious risk to others was identified.
